When your Star TSP100 thermal receipt printer is unable to print, it can sometimes tell you what the problem is using the two lights on the control panel, POWER and ERROR. Below is a table showing what these light codes mean, and what can be done to fix the issue for successful Star TSP100 troubleshooting:
Recoverable Errors
Error Description |
Star Power Light |
ERROR Light State |
To Fix Error |
---|---|---|---|
Printer Overheated | Flashes in half-second intervals (twice every second) | Off | Allow the unit to cool off. When the Star power light stops flashing you may continue printing. |
Cover Open Error | On (steady) | On (steady) | Make sure the cover is fully closed by opening the cover and closing it again firmly. |
Non-Recoverable Errors
Error Description | Star Power Light | ERROR Light State |
---|---|---|
RAM Error | Off | On (steady) |
Memory SW Error | Flashes in quarter-second intervals (four times every second) | Flashes in quarter-second intervals (four times every second) |
Thermistor Error | Flashes in half-second intervals (twice every second) | Flashes in half-second intervals (twice every second) |
Power Supply Error | Flashes in one-second intervals (once every second) | Flashes in one-second intervals (once every second) |
For any non-recoverable Star TSP100 error listed above, it is possible that the Star power light errors are being caused by a faulty electrical outlet. Try plugging the printer into a different outlet to see if that's the issue. If the printer starts working after using a different outlet, you should contact an electrician because faulty electrical outlets can be a fire hazard.
