An invalid card number means that the card is likely closed at the card issuing bank and is effectively an invalid card. If the cardholder says that the card is not closed, then the cardholder should contact the card issuing bank to resolve the issue.
Invalid Card Number for AVS and CVV
The CVV and AVS response is not accurate for the invalid card number error. In other words, the bank returned a response (invalid card number) but did not check AVS or CVV. So, the AVS and CVV result that is listed on an invalid card number transaction is simply the default response that was returned by the bank ... not the actual result of AVS and CVV.
