Yes, you can still accept a transaction even if your security settings have declined a transaction due to an AVS mismatch (so long as the transaction has not settled yet).
IMPORTANT: This is only possible when PreAuthorize is set to OFF in your Account Settings.
An Address Verification Mismatch is a fraud screening indicator; if you override and force a transaction through that was originally declined due to a mismatch, you are assuming all responsibility and risk associated with that transaction.
Step-By-Step Instructions
You may override your security settings on a per transaction basis either at the time of the transaction, or editing the transaction details prior to the transaction settling.
To override your security settings at the time of the transaction:
- Click the Process button on the left of the page.
- Fill out the transaction form, and click the green Process button at the bottom.
-
If the transaction is declined due to an AVS mismatch, you will be prompted with an option to override the decline:
- If you trust the customer then click "Trust & Charge" - the transaction will go through without the AVS security check.
- If you don't trust the customer then click "Update & Retry," then proceed to gather a new card from the customer to try again.
Note, if you are not allowed to override the security settings, the option to override will not be present.
To override your security settings after the transaction has been processed and prior to settlement time:
-
On the Process page, click Show Recent to view the recent transactions.
-
Locate the transaction that was recently declined for AVS, which will be denoted by the red circle with a line next to the transaction type.
-
Roll over the declined transaction with the red circle to view the bank response for that decline.
-
Then click on the View button in that pop-up window to bring up the full Transaction Details page.
-
Click Approve Transaction at the top of the screen, just below the red header.
- If you are not allowed to override the security settings, this option will not be present.
