How Do I Reset or Enable My JavaScript and Cookie Settings?

Each web browser is a little different and instructions for resetting your browser back to its default state may vary. In general, here are the following steps to enable and reset your browser's JavaScript and Cookie settings:

  1. Locate your browser settings. These are usually in the File menu under Edit, Tools, Preferences, or the application settings.
  2. Next, locate either the Security, Content, Privacy, or Advanced tabs.
  3. Check Enable JavaScript and Enable / Accept Cookies.

We have included detailed instructions for most browsers for convenience.

JavaScript

Edge JavaScript (MAC and Windows)

  1. Click the three-dot menu (⋯) in the top-right corner.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. In the left sidebar, click Cookies and site permissions.
  4. Scroll down and click JavaScript.
  5. Toggle Allowed (recommended) to On.
  6. To reset for a specific site: Click Add under Allow or Block, enter the site URL, and click Add.
  7. Close the settings tab — changes are saved automatically.

Firefox JavaScript (Mac)

  1. In the top menu, click Firefox and then Settings… (or Preferences… in older versions).
  2. In the left sidebar, select Privacy & Security.
  3. Scroll down to the Permissions section.
  4. JavaScript is enabled by default in modern Firefox and cannot be completely turned off via the normal Settings UI.

Firefox JavaScript (Windows)

  1. Click the three-line menu (≡) in the top-right corner and select Settings.
  2. Scroll down to Privacy & Security in the left sidebar.
  3. JavaScript is enabled by default in modern Firefox and cannot be completely turned off via the normal Settings interface.

Safari JavaScript (Mac)

  1. In the top menu, click Safari  Settings… (or Preferences… in older versions).
  2. Go to the Security tab.
  3. Check the Enable JavaScript box.
  4. Close the Preferences window — changes are saved automatically.
  5. To reset for a specific site, you can clear the website data: Click on SettingsPrivacyManage Website DataRemove All (or remove specific site data). 

Safari JavaScript (PC)

  1. Click Edit and then click Preferences….
  2. Go to the Security tab.
  3. Check the Enable JavaScript box.
  4. Close the Preferences window to save.
  5. To reset for a specific site, clear the website data: Click on EditPreferencesPrivacyRemove All Website Data… 

Chrome JavaScript

  1. Click the three-dot menu (⋯) in the top-right corner.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. In the left sidebar, click Privacy and security.
  4. Click Site Settings.
  5. Scroll down and click JavaScript.
  6. Toggle Sites can use JavaScript to On.
  7. To reset or allow/block a specific site: Use the Add button under Allowed or Not allowed, enter the site URL, and click Add.

Cookies

Chrome Cookies (Mac and Windows)

  1. Click the three-dot menu (⋯) in the top-right corner.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. In the left sidebar, click Privacy and security.
  4. Click Cookies and other site data.
  5. Make sure “Allow all cookies” is selected.
  6. Optional: To customize cookies for specific sites: Scroll down to Sites that can always use cookies or Always clear cookies when windows are closed. Click Add, enter the website URL, and set the desired behavior. 
  7. Close the Settings tab — changes are applied immediately.

Microsoft Edge Cookies (Mac and Windows)

  1. Click the three-dot menu (⋯) in the top-right corner.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. In the left sidebar, click Cookies and site permissions.
  4. Click Manage and delete cookies and site data.
  5. Toggle Allow sites to save and read cookie data (recommended) to On.
  6. Optional: Add site-specific rules by clicking Add under Allow or Block to customize cookie behavior for specific websites.
  7. Close the settings tab — changes are applied immediately.

Firefox Cookies (Mac and Windows)

  1. Click the three-line menu (≡) in the top-right corner and select Settings (on a Mac, it may appear as Preferences).
  2. In the left sidebar, click Privacy & Security.
  3. Scroll down to the Cookies and Site Data section.
  4. Ensure “Accept cookies and site data from websites (recommended)” is checked.
  5. Optional: Select “Always”, “From visited”, or “Never” from the dropdown to customize cookie acceptance.
  6. Optional: To allow or block cookies from specific sites: Click Manage Exceptions… Enter the website URL and choose Allow or Block, then click Save Changes.
  7. Close the settings tab — changes are applied immediately.

Safari Cookies (Mac)

  1. In the top menu, click Safari and then Settings… (or Preferences… in older versions).
  2. Click the Privacy tab.
  3. Make sure “Block all cookies” is unchecked.
  4. Optional: To manage cookies for specific websites, click Manage Website Data…, then remove or allow cookies per site.
  5. Close the Settings/Preferences window — changes are applied immediately.

Safari Cookies (Windows)

  1. Click Edit and then Preferences….
  2. Go to the Privacy tab.
  3. Make sure “Block all cookies” is unchecked.
  4. Optional: Use Remove All Website Data… to clear cookies for specific sites.
  5. Close the Preferences window — changes are applied immediately.
