Why Don't Contactless Payments Include the Customer's Name?

Contactless payments send the minimal amount of customer billing information to complete the transaction. Your customers' names are not included automatically with Contactless payments.

When processing Contactless payments on a Smart Terminal (tap payments like Apple Pay), you may have noticed that your customers' names are not showing up in the transaction details.

Instead, placeholders could be showing for the First and Last names, such as:

  • VALUED CUSTOMER
  • VISA CARDHOLDER
  • or, perhaps the First and Last Name fields are simply blank.

While Contactless transactions will not automatically include your Customers' names, there are some approaches you can take to capture your Customers' names per transaction:

  • Process card-present transactions as EMV-chipped: Encourage your customers to insert their EMV-chipped card into the Smart Terminal instead of tapping their card to complete the payment.
  • Edit the transaction for Instant Recharges originally run as Contactless: If you are automatically recharging a customer's card on file, and the original transaction was a Contactless payment, ensure to edit the Transaction Details to include your Customer's name for the new transaction. (This article can help with editing transactions.)

This is not a PayJunction feature, but instead how the Contactless payments technology is designed.

Contactless payments cannot be disabled or deactivated as a transaction method.
